Judgment You Can Trust: The Kandiyohi County Attorney is considered a Minister of Justice and has prosecutorial discretion with regard to charging offenders with crimes. Exercise of this discretion should be reasonable. There is no place for arrogance. The citizens of Kandiyohi County can Trust that the decisions I make will bring integrity, safety and pride to our community. I’ve built a thriving and successful law practice by providing my clients with sound advice in their most sensitive and important decisions. I’m ready to share my common-sense approach to problem-solving to the benefit of Kandiyohi County.
Experience that matters: My experience is well-rounded and suited to the diverse nature of the work of the Kandiyohi County Attorney. I’ve prosecuted heinous offenses and common ones, too. I’ve spent hundreds of hours in the courtroom in criminal and civil cases. My years of experience on the Boards of Directors for Rice Memorial Hospital, Kandiyohi County Area Family YMCA, Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce prepare me well to counsel the County Commissioners with their governance issues. I’ve been a lawyer for 17 years and have the experience and maturity required for this position. I am, in fact, more experienced and older than the incumbent was when he first took office in 1990.
Perspective that is fresh. 20 years is a long time for an elected official to be unopposed in office. I will bring innovative ideas, fresh perspective and a new energy to the office of the Kandiyohi County Attorney.
Dedication to Public Safety: The Kandiyohi County Attorney is considered the Chief Prosecutor of crimes that occur in the County. As such, I am dedicated to being a partner with Law Enforcement, providing guidance, assistance and leadership. I am passionate about the safety and welfare of the children in Kandiyohi County. I will be merciless in my pursuit of those who harm our children and other most vulnerable citizens. Methamphetamine use continues to cause instability in children’s homes and violence in our community. I am committed to helping reinforce the efforts of Kandiyohi County Family Services and law enforcement to end the scourge of methamphetamine access and addiction in our community. My response to violence in our community will be to aggressively prosecute offenders.
Accessibility to the Public. Elected officials are accountable to the voters who elected them. I believe manners and respect are consistent with good lawyer skills. I promise to be accessible and to listen to all who contact me.
Commitment to Sound Fiscal Policy: Our state and local governments are facing the worst budget crisis in recent history. While there are serious concerns about the Courts’ ability to provide swift justice under such extreme circumstances, the budget cuts of the Courts and Public Defenders present opportunities for cost savings in our County. As Kandiyohi County Attorney, I will make certain that my office takes advantage of those opportunities. For twenty years, the budget of the Kandiyohi County Attorney has grown. Being a fiscal conservative, I know that more expensive does not always mean better. There are efficiencies available through cooperation and communication with family services and law enforcement. One of my top priorities is to review the budget of the Kandiyohi County Attorney and decide where efficiencies can occur in light of this crisis.
